![]() ![]() There is the risk that he slowly losing coolant but won't know because the light is already on. More than likely u will be fine for 4 days with no issues and no need to add DISTILLED WATER. If that does happen, pull over and turn off motor, wait for engine to cool and then add the distilled water. Just roll up to the service bay and ask for a top up (For FREE).ģ) you can safely drive around but just be mindful, get a simple water bottle and fill it with DISTILLED WATER that u can find at any grocery store, keep it in the car just in case your car starts to over heat. Very expensive bad things will happen if u make this common/simple mistake.Ģ) bmw dealership service bays will usually top u up for free (coolant and washer fluid) even very old and out of warranty cars. 1) do not use the green coolant, only use the correct bmw blue coolant. The dummy indicator is just a warning reference, you still have about 2 gallons of good coolant in your system. ![]() But I have some at home so just wondering if it safe? ![]() Is it okay if I can put Peak Long Life coolant ( it's green inside) like maybe a cup or 2? I know I should put the BMW kind up dealership is 2 hrs away and really need some now so I can drive there. I am getting my car serviced in next 4 days, Monday. I checked my coolant container and it was empty. Okay it's below freezing temps where I live for first time ever and my coolant warning surprisingly decided to came on today. and 50% covers you down to negative 31 degrees, a 43% mix should cover you in the temps you have in your area since you aren't below zero at all. Looking at the Bentley chart, if 60% covers you to negative 40. Once you add that last quart of blue Monday, you will have 4 quarts of blue and 8 quarts in the system = 50% mix again. 428, so adding just a quart of distilled water would dilute you and give you a 43% mix. My math says that 4 quarts of water and 3 quarts of blue would make a 43% coolant mixture (7qts total in system). If you add 1 quart of straight distilled water to hold you over until Monday, that makes your current concentration go from 3 quarts of water and 3 quarts of coolant, to 4 quarts of water and 3 quarts of blue (until monday when you even it up to 4 and 4). Even though it's low, you still currently have a 50% mix (3 qts water and 3 qts coolant) The system holds about 8 quarts (2 gallons). So assuming your coolant was 50/50, and you are 2 quarts low because the light came on. Use a coolant hydrometer to determine antifreeze concentration. Bentley Manual says this about protection.ĭo not use a higher concentration of antifreeze than a 60% mixture, as the heat transfer quality of the coolant decreases with higher antifreeze concentrations. ![]()
